Acceptable Use Policy
What may and may not be done on our website, booking platform and interpreter marketplace.
England & Wales
InSignLanguage Ltd — last updated 22 July 2026 — version 1.0
This Acceptable Use Policy sets out what may and may not be done on our website, our booking platform and our interpreter marketplace. It is referenced by our Website Terms of Use and by the Interpreter Supplier Terms, and forms part of both.
1. Who this applies to
Everyone who uses our systems: visitors to the website, clients booking interpreting or translation, interpreters listed on or applying to the marketplace, and anyone accessing a booking, assignment record or interpreted session through us.
2. The principle
Our systems exist to arrange and deliver communication support for Deaf people. Use them for that. The people whose appointments pass through this platform are often at their most vulnerable — in hospital, in a police station, at a disciplinary hearing. Everything below follows from taking that seriously.
3. What you must not do
Misuse of the service
Book an assignment you do not intend to attend, or make speculative bookings to hold an interpreter's availability.
Use a booking to obtain an interpreter's personal contact details in order to work around us — see the covenants for what that means contractually.
Misrepresent the nature, setting or risk of an assignment. An interpreter who arrives unprepared for a mental health tribunal because it was booked as a "meeting" cannot do their job safely.
Ask an interpreter to work outside their registration category, or to act as an advocate, advisor, witness or chaperone.
Misrepresentation
Claim a professional registration, qualification, DBS status or specialism you do not hold, or allow an out-of-date one to stand.
Impersonate another person, or list a profile for anyone other than yourself.
Submit another interpreter's credentials, references or work as your own.
Confidentiality and recording
Record, photograph or stream any part of an interpreted session unless it has been agreed in writing in advance and everyone taking part has consented — confirmed in British Sign Language where a participant is Deaf.
Repeat, publish or discuss anything learned during an assignment outside the people who need to know.
Extract, copy or scrape client lists, interpreter profiles, availability or booking data from our systems.
Conduct
Harass, threaten, abuse or discriminate against anyone — interpreters, clients, Deaf people, or our staff. This includes conduct during an assignment and in messages sent through the platform.
Post content that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene or designed to mislead.
Technical
Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any account, system or data.
Introduce malware, probe for vulnerabilities, or interfere with the availability of the service.
Use automated tools to access the site beyond ordinary search-engine indexing.
Share your account credentials, or let anyone else use your account.
4. Your account
Keep your login details secure and tell us straight away at support@insignlanguage.co.uk if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what happens under your login.
5. Content you give us
You keep ownership of anything you upload — a profile, a document, a booking note. You give us permission to use it for the purpose you supplied it for: arranging and delivering the service, and displaying your marketplace profile if you are a listed interpreter. You confirm you have the right to give it to us, and that sharing it with an interpreter breaches nobody's confidence.
Do not put more personal data in a booking note than the interpreter needs. Never put account numbers, passwords or clinical detail in a free-text field.
6. How we enforce this
We would rather have a conversation than take action, and usually do. Where something needs more, we may: ask you to put it right; remove or amend content; pause a marketplace listing; suspend or close an account; or end the contract under the terms that apply to you.
For interpreters, a pause in offers is not a disciplinary sanction and does not affect your freedom to work elsewhere. It is a listing standard, applied while a concern is discussed. The process is set out in the Interpreter Supplier Terms.
Serious matters — safeguarding, criminal conduct, or a professional standards breach — are referred to the appropriate authority or register, and we cooperate fully with them.
7. Reporting a problem
Tell us at support@insignlanguage.co.uk. Safeguarding concerns go through our Safeguarding Policy and are treated as urgent. Complaints go through our Complaints Procedure.
8. Changes
We review this policy annually and whenever the service changes materially. The current version and date are shown at the top.
