BSL Video Presentation Terms

How BSL Video Presentations work: you supply final source content, a qualified hearing RSLI interprets it to camera, and we deliver a captioned recording. It is interpreting, recorded — not a translation.

BSL Video Presentation Terms

InSignLanguage Ltd — ISL-LEG-B06 — version 1.0 — effective 8 September 2026

1. What these terms cover

These terms apply to the BSL Video Presentation service, ordered directly or through the InSignLanguage Marketplace. They sit alongside our Client Terms and Conditions, which continue to apply. Where these terms and the Client Terms conflict on the BSL Video Presentation service, these terms win.

In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean InSignLanguage Ltd. "You" means the organisation or individual ordering the service. "Interpreter" means the Registered Sign Language Interpreter we assign.

2. What a BSL Video Presentation is

A BSL Video Presentation is an interpretation, delivered to camera and recorded.

You supply finished material in English, which these terms call the Source Content. We assign a qualified hearing Registered Sign Language Interpreter (RSLI). The Interpreter prepares from the Source Content, then interprets it to camera. We record that interpretation, add captions, and deliver the recording to you. These terms call the delivered file the Presentation.

The Presentation is a recording of an interpretation. It is the same professional act our interpreters perform in a live appointment, filmed rather than delivered in the room, and it is provided under the same standard: ISO 18841:2018, for which we hold certificate ATCISO2479, valid to 08/12/2028.

3. What a BSL Video Presentation is not

This section is the most important part of these terms. Please read it before ordering.

We are not currently taking on new translation work. What we offer is interpreting, live or recorded. A BSL Video Presentation is a recorded interpretation and is not sold as, or in place of, a translation.

A BSL Video Presentation is not a translation and must not be described, ordered, resold or relied on as one. In particular, it does not include and does not carry:

  • a drafting and revision cycle, in which a draft is produced, reviewed and amended before release;

  • a second qualified linguist revising the work before delivery, which is the defining requirement of the translation standard ISO 17100:2015;

  • any certificate, attestation or statement of translation accuracy;

  • certified, sworn, notarised or legally attested translation of any kind;

  • conformity with ISO 17100:2015, for which we are not certified and which we do not claim.

If your purpose, your regulator, a court, a public body or your own policy requires a translation, or requires a certified or attested translation, this service will not meet that requirement. You will need a translation provider. If you tell us that is what you need, we will say so and decline the work rather than take it.

4. Who delivers the service

Every Presentation is delivered by a hearing Registered Sign Language Interpreter who is registered with the NRCPD, RBSLI or SLRPDC, and who holds a Level 6 or postgraduate interpreting qualification.

Before taking work from us, every Interpreter's registration, enhanced DBS check, professional indemnity insurance and identity are verified, and registration is re-checked at renewal. Interpreters work to their regulator's Code of Conduct and to their contract with us.

Interpreters are self-employed professionals contracted by us. We remain your supplier and are responsible to you for the service.

Where the subject matter falls into one of our gated specialisms, including mental health, we will only assign an Interpreter whose evidence for that specialism has been approved by our Head of Interpreting Services.

5. How the service runs

Ordering. You send us the Source Content and tell us what the Presentation is for and who will see it. We confirm scope, fee and delivery date in writing before we start.

Source Content must be final. We interpret what you give us. Send the finished, approved version. We do not begin until you confirm the Source Content is final.

Briefing. Tell us anything the Interpreter needs to render the material properly: names, place names, drug names, acronyms, pronunciations, house terminology, and the intended audience. Preparation is part of the service and we will ask for this if you do not send it.

Recording. The Interpreter prepares and then interprets the Source Content to camera. This is a single prepared delivery, not a drafted document worked through successive versions.

Delivery. We deliver the Presentation as an agreed video file with captions, by the agreed date, through a secure route.

6. Corrections and re-records

This section defines the limits of the service and is what distinguishes it from a translation deliverable.

We will re-record at our cost, and without charge to you, where:

  • the Interpreter has made a clear error against the Source Content;

  • a technical fault in recording, captioning or delivery makes the Presentation unusable;

  • we have failed to follow a briefing instruction you gave us in writing before recording.

Tell us within 14 days of delivery if one of those applies.

We will re-record as a new chargeable job where:

  • you change the Source Content after recording, for any reason;

  • you want a different emphasis, register, style, interpreter or presentation approach;

  • you want the Presentation revised against comments gathered after delivery.

There is no revision cycle. You are not buying a draft that we amend to your satisfaction, and you should not plan or budget on that basis. If your material genuinely needs iteration before it is settled, settle it before you order.

7. Your responsibilities

You are responsible for the accuracy, lawfulness, clinical correctness and completeness of the Source Content. We interpret it; we do not verify it, fact-check it, or take responsibility for what it says.

You are responsible for deciding whether a BSL Video Presentation is the right product for your purpose, having read section 3. Where you are unsure, ask us before ordering and we will tell you honestly.

You must hold all rights needed in the Source Content, and all consents needed for any person or material appearing in it.

You must not present, label or distribute the Presentation as a translation, a certified translation, or a document conforming to ISO 17100.

8. Intellectual property and use

You keep all rights in the Source Content.

We own the recording until the fee is paid in full. On payment we grant you a non-exclusive, perpetual licence to use the Presentation for the purpose agreed at order, including publishing it on your own channels.

The Interpreter's image and performance appear in the Presentation. The Interpreter consents to that use for the agreed purpose. You must not use the Presentation, or any still or clip from it, to endorse a product, person or position, or in any way the Interpreter has not agreed to.

You must not edit, re-cut, dub, subtitle differently or otherwise alter the Presentation in a way that changes its meaning or misrepresents the Interpreter. Trimming top and tail, and embedding it in your own page or platform, are fine.

Commercial distribution is a separate permission and a separate charge. Using the Presentation to advertise, to resell, or to promote a paid product or service goes beyond the purpose agreed at order. Ask us first. We will normally agree, and we will quote for it. The Interpreter appears in the recording, and commercial exploitation of their performance is not covered by the fee for the job.

Ask us before using a Presentation for any other materially different purpose. We will normally agree.

9. Confidentiality and data protection

We treat the Source Content as confidential and disclose it only to the Interpreter and to staff who need it to deliver the service.

Where the Source Content contains personal data, we act as your processor under Article 28 of the UK GDPR, on your documented instructions, under a separate data processing agreement. We are registered with the ICO, registration ZC163713. Our Data Protection Officer is the Chief Information Officer.

Source Content and working files are held on UK-resident Microsoft 365 storage, encrypted at rest and in transit, and are deleted or returned on your instruction and in any event within 90 days of delivery unless you ask us to retain them.

We keep a record of the job itself, meaning who ordered it, when, which Interpreter and what was delivered, for our own quality, insurance and audit purposes.

10. Fees, cancellation and payment

Fees are quoted per job against the Source Content and confirmed in writing before we start. Quotes are valid for 30 days. All prices include VAT.

If you cancel after we have confirmed the job but before the Interpreter has prepared, no charge applies. If you cancel after preparation has begun, we charge for preparation time incurred. If you cancel within 2 working days of a booked recording, or after recording, the full fee applies, because the Interpreter's time cannot be resold.

Payment is due within 30 days of invoice unless we have agreed otherwise in writing.

11. Liability

We are responsible for delivering the service with reasonable care and skill, by a properly qualified Interpreter, in line with these terms.

We are not liable for loss arising from the Source Content itself, or from your decision to use a BSL Video Presentation where a translation was required. Section 3 sets that boundary out plainly, and it is your decision to make.

Our total liability for any job is limited to the fee paid for that job, except where the law does not allow us to limit liability, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence and for fraud.

We hold professional indemnity insurance of £2 million and public liability insurance of £2 million. Evidence is available on request.

12. Complaints

Tell us: support@insignlanguage.co.uk. We acknowledge within one business day, investigate through our Head of Interpreting Services, and respond in writing with the corrective action taken. Complaints are recorded and closed under our ISO 9001:2015 quality system.

If your complaint concerns an Interpreter's professional conduct, you may also complain directly to the register they are on — the NRCPD, RBSLI or SLRPDC. We will tell you which applies and how to do it.

13. General

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.

We may change these terms. The version that applies to your job is the version in force when we confirm the order.

If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.

These terms, our Client Terms and Conditions, and the written order confirmation are the whole agreement between us for the service.
