InSignLanguage works with children and adults at risk in education, health, social-care, criminal-justice and Access to Work settings. Safeguarding the people we work with is a fundamental responsibility — not an optional extra — and is set out in our internal Safeguarding & Duty of Care Policy (SAFE-001).

Our commitment

We:

• treat the safety, dignity and well-being of children and adults at risk as a top priority;

• comply with Working Together to Safeguard Children, the Care Act 2014, the Children Act 1989/2004 and the Equality Act 2010;

• vet every interpreter — those working with children or adults at risk hold a current enhanced DBS, PVG or Access NI check, kept in line with DBS guidance;

• require every interpreter to follow the relevant register's code of conduct (NRCPD, RBSLI, SASLI);

• train all interpreters and staff in safeguarding awareness as part of induction and annually thereafter;

• maintain confidentiality except where disclosure is necessary to protect a person from harm.

When we will share information

We will share information without consent where:

• a child or adult at risk is in immediate danger;

• we are required to do so by a safeguarding authority, the police or a court;

• the law otherwise requires us to disclose.

In every other case we share only with the data subject's consent, or under another lawful basis as set out in our Privacy Notice.

How to raise a safeguarding concern

If you have a safeguarding concern about something that happened in connection with our service:

• In an emergency, call 999.

• Otherwise, email support@insignlanguage.co.uk marked "Safeguarding" and we will respond the same Working Day. Out of hours, leave a voicemail on our emergency line — we monitor it during the hours stated in your service agreement with us.

• You can also contact the relevant statutory authority — your local authority safeguarding team, the police, the NSPCC (0808 800 5000), or Hourglass (0808 808 8141) for older adults.

Records

Safeguarding records are held securely in line with our retention schedule — typically 25 years from the date of the incident where a child is involved (or until the subject reaches age 25, whichever is later), in line with statutory guidance.
