Service Description

Two registered BSL interpreters covering your online event, from a webinar to a full-day conference. Confirmed the moment you book, and there is nothing to pay until it has been delivered. Two Registered Sign Language Interpreters working as a pair, joining online, weekdays between 09:00 and 17:00. This is how interpreting is delivered for anything that is not a one-to-one conversation - not an upgrade, and not something you have to justify. CONFIRMED WHEN YOU BOOK, PAID AFTERWARDS Online needs a fortnight's notice, not a month. No venue to check, no travel to arrange for two people, nobody crossing the country. And because we hold interpreters on shift for online work, your booking is confirmed the moment you make it - a date, not a request under consideration. If your date is sooner than fourteen days, ask anyway and we will tell you straight away whether we can cover it. You are not charged until the service has been delivered. If your finance team would rather pay in advance, you can. Cancel or reschedule free of charge up to seven days before the start. WORKING TO A STANDARD, NOT JUST A CONNECTION Every session is delivered remotely by registered interpreters working to our own standards and to ASLI's best-practice guidance for video interpreting: preparation before the day, what the interpreter must be able to see and hear, pacing and turn-taking, rest breaks, and when a second interpreter is required. Remote is not a lighter version of the work. That guidance exists precisely because a video link takes something away, and the working practices are what put it back. WHY TWO Continuity. One interpreter can sustain a conversation between two people. Beyond that - a programme, several speakers, an audience - the interpreting has to run without a break in it, and that takes a pair. Being online does not change that. THE SCREEN IS MORE TIRING THAN THE ROOM Interpreting accuracy is known to fall away after around thirty minutes of continuous work, and online it comes on sooner: a video link strips out depth, peripheral vision and the natural cues of a room, so the interpreter is working harder to read less. A pair holds the quality steady from the first minute to the last. HOW A PAIR WORKS ONLINE Working as co-interpreters, they switch lead roles every 15 to 20 minutes, or whenever a natural transition point arises. Even when not actively signing, the support interpreter is fully engaged - tracking names and figures, feeding terminology, correcting in real time. Neither is a spare, and that second pair of eyes is the accuracy control a solo interpreter cannot provide. Both are on the call throughout, so the handover is seamless. Your meeting does not stop for it. WHY ORGANISATIONS BOOK THIS Organisations have duties under the Equality Act 2010 to make reasonable adjustments so that Deaf people are not put at a disadvantage. Booking registered interpreters is how that is met for an event - and it leaves a record: named professionals, a written confirmation and an invoice. If a Deaf participant is in work, Access to Work may fund their interpreting. Ask us before you book and we will tell you whether it is likely to qualify. A WIDER CHOICE OF INTERPRETERS Finding two interpreters who are free on the same day, work well together, and can both reach your venue is the hardest part of booking a pair in person. Online, the travel constraint disappears - so we pair for skill and compatibility rather than for postcode. THE SAME WORK, WITHOUT THE TRAVEL The fee matches the equivalent in-person service, because the interpreting is the same demanding work. What you save is the travel for two people, and nothing is lost to a delayed train. WHAT IT COVERS Conferences and webinars, AGMs, all-staff briefings, panels, training days, board and committee meetings, public consultations. Everyone can be somewhere different. WE JOIN YOU Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, or whatever you already use. Send the platform and joining link with your booking - or ask us to set up a Teams link for you. Nothing to install, nothing to buy. WHAT IS INCLUDED Both interpreters for the full booked period, their preparation, and their rest breaks. We name both to you before the day. Every interpreter is registered, bound by the NRCPD code of conduct including confidentiality, and carries their own indemnity insurance. PRICE Prices cover both interpreters and include VAT. A full day is six hours of interpreting; beyond six hours the rate is £85 an hour, per interpreter. If any part is recorded, that is agreed in writing beforehand and costs £550 a full day or £275 for less. Tell us what the meeting is on the booking form and we will confirm the right number of interpreters - you do not have to work that out.

Cancellation Policy

This policy covers this service only - TWO Registered Sign Language Interpreters as a pair, online, weekdays 09:00 to 17:00. 1. THE MEETING IS YOURS 1.1 You host. Tell us the platform - Teams, Zoom, Google Meet or another - and give us the joining link. If you would rather we set up a Teams link, ask. 1.2 If the link changes, send the new one at once. 1.3 Admit both. A waiting room that holds one of them breaks the handover. 2. WHAT THE INTERPRETERS NEED 2.1 Camera on for anyone speaking, and for every Deaf participant throughout. 2.2 Pin whoever is leading, or let the Deaf participant control it. 2.3 One speaker at a time, with a chair managing turn-taking. 2.4 Send any shared screen as a file or link too. 3. MAKING A BOOKING 3.1 Book at least 14 days ahead. For shorter notice, contact us - we will try. 3.2 Confirmed straight away - we hold interpreters on shift for online work. 3.3 The form requires a link or a file - both prepare from it. 3.4 Tell us the setting and subject. Personal, legal and medical work must be identified at booking. 4. YOUR INTERPRETERS 4.1 Both attend throughout and the fee covers both. We name both to you before the day. 4.2 They change the lead at intervals they agree; the one not leading is still working. 4.3 If one cannot attend we replace them, or you take one at the single price or cancel free. 4.4 A full day is six hours of interpreting. Beyond six hours, £85 an hour per interpreter. 5. BREAKS 5.1 Changing the lead is not a break; both need rest away from the screen. Expect a rest break in any half day, lunch on a full day. 6. RECORDING 6.1 Tell us at booking if any part will be recorded. Saying yes is not permission: it needs both interpreters' agreement, is in writing, and costs £550 a full day or £275 for less. 6.2 Platform recording and auto-transcription capture the interpreters too. Leave them off unless agreed. 7. PAYING, CANCELLING AND RESCHEDULING 7.1 Nothing to pay when you book; we invoice after delivery. To pay in advance, tell us. 7.2 Cancel or reschedule free up to 7 days before the start. Inside 7 days the booking stands and is charged in full. 7.3 If nobody joins, or the link fails and we cannot reach you, it is charged in full. 7.4 Consumers keep their statutory rights in full. If we cancel, we do not charge. 7.5 Interpreters need not wait more than 15 minutes past the start. Our Terms and Conditions of Service govern; where this differs, they apply. bookings@insignlanguage.co.uk
