Co-worked RSLI Support — Weekends
Two Registered Sign Language Interpreters working as a pair, Saturdays and Sundays
Service Description
Two Registered Sign Language Interpreters, working as a pair, on a Saturday or Sunday between 09:00 and 17:00. This is how interpreting is delivered for anything that is not a one-to-one conversation - not an upgrade, and not something you have to justify. WHY TWO Continuity. One interpreter can sustain a conversation between two people. Beyond that - a room, a programme, several speakers, an audience - the interpreting has to run without a break in it, and that takes a pair. Most of what fills a weekend is exactly that shape: conferences, AGMs, training days, ceremonies, community events, sports fixtures. A weekend audience is no easier to interpret than a weekday one. HOW A PAIR ACTUALLY WORKS Working as co-interpreters, they switch lead roles every 15 to 20 minutes, or whenever a natural transition point arises. Even when not actively signing, the support interpreter is fully engaged: tracking names and figures, feeding terminology, and correcting in real time. Neither is a spare, and both are engaged for the whole assignment. WHEN ONE IS ENOUGH A single Deaf person, one interpreter, in conversation. That is One-to-One RSLI Support - Weekends. WHY IT COSTS MORE THAN A WEEKDAY Weekend work is unsocial hours. Interpreters are paid more for it and fewer take it, so the fee is higher than the weekday equivalent - and it applies to the whole booking. Two interpreters, at the weekend rate. WHAT IS INCLUDED Both interpreters for the full booked period, their preparation, and their rest breaks. We name both to you before the day, and they arrive early enough to meet the Deaf participants and agree between themselves how they will work. Every interpreter on this service is registered, bound by the NRCPD code of conduct including confidentiality, and carries their own indemnity insurance. Legal and medical work, and anything touching consent or capacity, is allocated to Registered Sign Language Interpreters. BOOKING AND PRICE Prices cover both interpreters and include VAT. A full day is six hours of interpreting, spread across up to eight hours on site. Beyond six hours the rate is £127.50 an hour, per interpreter. Every request is read by a person before it is confirmed - this is a request, not an instant booking. Book at least 30 days ahead: weekend cover is scarce, and two interpreters free on the same weekend more so. Send your preparation material with the booking - the form asks for a link or a file and will not submit without one. NOT QUITE THIS? Use the Book a BSL Interpreter form for face-to-face work, describe the assignment, and we will route it and quote. You do not have to work out the number of interpreters - tell us what the assignment is and we will confirm it.
Cancellation Policy
This policy covers this service only - TWO Registered Sign Language Interpreters as a pair, in person, out of hours. WHEN THIS RUNS Evenings: weekdays 17:00-22:00. Weekends: Sat and Sun 09:00-17:00, up to a full day. Two interpreters are booked because the assignment needs two. Evening and weekend rates apply to the whole booking. Not for weekday daytime work or online meetings. 1. MAKING A BOOKING 1.1 Book at least 30 days ahead; cover is scarce. 1.2 Every request is read by a person before we confirm. 1.3 The form requires a link or a file - both prepare from it. 1.4 Tell us the setting and subject. Personal, legal and medical work must be identified. 1.5 A pair needs room to work and a clear sightline to everyone. 1.6 Evenings must finish by 22:00. 2. YOUR INTERPRETERS 2.1 Both attend throughout and the fee covers both. 2.2 The lead changes at intervals they agree; the other is still working. 2.3 We name both before the day. 2.4 An interpreter may decline a co-worker. We allocate another. 2.5 If one cannot attend we replace them, or you take one at the single price or cancel free. 2.6 With one interpreter, nobody works alone with an individual in a private residence. 2.7 A weekend full day is six hours. Beyond six, £127.50 an hour per interpreter. 3. BREAKS 3.1 Changing the lead is not a break. Both need rest away from the room. 3.2 Expect a rest break in any booking, and lunch on a full day. 4. CANCELLATION, LATENESS AND NO-SHOWS 4.1 Notice, and the charge: 15+ days - no charge; 8-14 days - 50%; 7 days or less - 100%; no-show - 100% plus travel. 4.2 Consumers keep their statutory rights in full. 4.3 If we cancel, we tell you promptly and do not charge. 4.4 Interpreters need not wait more than 15 minutes past the start. 5. RECORDING 5.1 Tell us at booking if any part will be recorded. Saying yes is not permission: it needs both interpreters' agreement, is in writing, and costs £550 a full day or £275 for less. 6. TRAVEL AND EXPENSES 6.1 The fee covers the interpreting and the journey - interpreters travel to you and arrive early at no charge. 6.2 Where nobody is within reasonable reach, travel is quoted at 45p a mile, agreed before we confirm. 6.3 Parking, congestion, clean-air charges and overnight stays are at cost, agreed beforehand. 6.4 Full terms: insignlanguage.co.uk/legal-documents/travel Our Terms and Conditions of Service govern; where this differs, they apply. bookings@insignlanguage.co.uk
