Two interpreters working as a pair, on a Saturday or Sunday between 09:00 and 17:00: one Registered Sign Language Interpreter leading, and one Trainee Sign Language Interpreter working alongside them. WHY THIS PAIR EXISTS Co-working is how interpreting is delivered for anything that is not a one-to-one conversation. A room, a programme, several speakers, an audience - the interpreting has to run without a break in it, and that takes two people. This version pairs a Registered interpreter with a trainee. It costs less than two Registered interpreters, and it is how trainees build the supervised hours that take them to full registration. Weekend events - community days, sports, festivals, conferences, ceremonies - are often exactly the right setting for it. WHY IT COSTS MORE THAN A WEEKDAY Weekend work is unsocial hours. Interpreters are paid more for it and fewer take it, so the fee is higher than the weekday equivalent and it applies to the whole booking. HOW THE PAIR WORKS The Registered interpreter leads and carries responsibility for the assignment. Working as co-interpreters, they switch lead roles every 15 to 20 minutes, or whenever a natural transition point arises. Even when not actively signing, the support interpreter is fully engaged - tracking names and figures, feeding terminology, correcting in real time. We name both to you before the day, and we tell you which is which. WHAT IT IS NOT FOR A trainee takes the lead for part of any co-worked assignment, so the same limits apply as to a solo trainee booking. If your assignment involves someone's health or treatment, their money, job or livelihood, their liberty or legal position, a child or an adult at risk, specialist technical content throughout, or anything recorded or broadcast - that needs two Registered interpreters. Tell us what the assignment is and we will make that judgement before we confirm. If it needs a Registered pair we will say so and re-quote; you can take that price or cancel at no cost. If the Registered interpreter cannot attend, we do not go ahead with two trainees. We replace them, or you cancel free. BOOKING AND PRICE Prices cover both interpreters and include VAT. A full day is six hours of interpreting. Beyond six hours the rate is £127.50 an hour for the Registered interpreter and £108.50 for the trainee.
