Service Description

A registered BSL interpreter in your evening meeting, on the platform you already use. We name your interpreter before we confirm, and there is nothing to pay until it has been delivered. One Registered Sign Language Interpreter, joining online for one Deaf person, weekday evenings between 17:00 and 22:00. ACCESS WHEN THE DAY IS DONE Evening classes, committee and branch meetings, AGMs, faith gatherings, union meetings, support groups, governor meetings, rehearsals. A great deal of life happens after five, and most of it now happens on a screen. A NAMED INTERPRETER, NOT A CALL CENTRE There are two quite different things people mean by remote interpreting. One is an on-demand video line where you take whoever answers. This is the other kind: a named, registered interpreter, booked for your meeting, who has read your material beforehand. ASLI's best-practice guidance for video interpreting draws exactly this distinction. It is the difference between access and a lottery. WORKING TO A STANDARD, NOT JUST A CONNECTION Every session is delivered remotely by a registered interpreter working to our own standards and to that same ASLI guidance: preparation before the day, what the interpreter must be able to see and hear, pacing and turn-taking, rest breaks, and when a second interpreter is required. Remote is not a lighter version of the work. The guidance exists precisely because a video link takes something away, and the working practices are what put it back. In the evening, at the end of everyone's day, that matters more, not less. CONFIRMED BY A PERSON, NOT A SCREEN Our interpreters are on shift during weekday hours. Evenings are sourced individually, so this is a request rather than an instant booking - and that is deliberate. We find your interpreter, they accept the work, and then we confirm to you. You will never hold a confirmation for an evening nobody has agreed to cover. Book at least 14 days ahead; evening cover is scarce and a fortnight is what makes it findable. If your date is sooner, ask anyway - we will tell you straight away whether we can reach it. You are not charged until the service has been delivered. If your finance team would rather pay in advance, you can. Cancel or reschedule free of charge up to seven days before the start. WHY ORGANISATIONS BOOK THIS Organisations have duties under the Equality Act 2010 to make reasonable adjustments so that a Deaf person is not put at a disadvantage. Booking a registered interpreter is how that is met for a meeting - and it leaves a record: a named professional, a written confirmation and an invoice. If the Deaf person is in work, Access to Work may fund their interpreting. We deal with Access to Work every day and will tell you whether a booking is likely to qualify. Ask us before you book rather than after. A WIDER CHOICE OF INTERPRETER Evening cover is the hardest to find locally. Online, the search is national rather than local, so a specialism or a familiar face becomes reachable on a Tuesday night in a way it simply is not in person. THE SAME WORK, WITHOUT THE TRAVEL Interpreting through a screen is not a lighter version of the job. The interpreter loses depth, peripheral vision and the natural turn-taking cues a room gives them, and adapts how they sign and how they read others to compensate. So the fee matches the equivalent in-person evening service. What you save is the travel - and nobody is asked to drive home at ten at night. WE JOIN YOU Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, or whatever you already use. Tell us the platform and send the joining link with your booking - or ask us to set up a Teams link for you. Nothing to install, nothing to buy. WHAT IS INCLUDED The interpreter for the full booked period, their preparation, and their rest breaks. Every interpreter is registered, bound by the NRCPD code of conduct including confidentiality, and carries their own indemnity insurance. PRICE Evening sessions run from two hours up to a full five-hour evening - what fits between 17:00 and 22:00. Prices include VAT: two hours £540, three hours £615, four hours £742.50, a full evening £870. If any part is recorded, that is agreed in writing beforehand and costs £550 a full day or £275 for less. If we think your meeting would be better served in person, or needs two interpreters, we will tell you and re-quote - you can take that price or cancel at no cost.

Cancellation Policy

This policy covers this service only - ONE Registered Sign Language Interpreter, online, one Deaf person, outside standard weekday hours. Evening and weekend rates apply to the whole booking. WHEN THIS RUNS Evenings: weekdays 17:00 to 22:00, two to five hours, finishing by 22:00. Weekends: Saturdays and Sundays 09:00 to 17:00, two hours to a full day. 1. CONFIRMING YOUR BOOKING 1.1 A request, not an instant booking: we source your interpreter and confirm once they accept. 1.2 Book at least 14 days ahead. Evening and weekend cover is scarce. 1.3 The form requires a link or a file to prepare from. 1.4 Tell us the setting and subject. Personal, legal and medical work must be identified. 2. THE MEETING IS YOURS 2.1 You host. Tell us the platform and joining link, or ask us to set up a Teams link. 2.2 If the link changes, send the new one at once. 2.3 Camera on for anyone speaking and the Deaf participant throughout. Interpreter pinned. One speaker at a time. 2.4 Send any shared screen as a file or link too. 3. YOUR INTERPRETER 3.1 One interpreter covers your booking. A weekend full day is six hours of interpreting; beyond six hours, £127.50 an hour. 3.2 We assess every booking before we confirm it. If it needs a second interpreter we tell you first and re-quote as Co-worked RSLI Online. 3.3 We never confirm a co-worked assignment at the single-interpreter price. You know how many interpreters you are getting, and the cost, before we confirm. 4. BREAKS 4.1 15 minutes' rest per hour when working continuously; breaks are the only safeguard on accuracy, and discussion stops. 5. RECORDING 5.1 Tell us at booking if any part will be recorded. Saying yes is not permission: it needs the interpreter's agreement, is in writing, and costs £550 a full day or £275 for less. 5.2 Platform recording and auto-transcription capture them too. Leave off unless agreed. 6. PAYING, CANCELLING AND RESCHEDULING 6.1 Nothing to pay when you book; we invoice after delivery. To pay in advance, tell us. 6.2 Cancel or reschedule free up to 7 days before the start; inside 7 days it stands and is charged in full. 6.3 If nobody joins, or the link fails and we cannot reach you, it is charged in full. 6.4 Consumers keep their statutory rights in full. If we cancel, we do not charge. 6.5 The interpreter need not wait more than 15 minutes past the start. Our Terms and Conditions of Service govern; where this differs, they apply. bookings@insignlanguage.co.uk
