Service Description

One Registered Sign Language Interpreter, for one Deaf person, for as long as the appointment needs. A hospital appointment, a solicitor's meeting, a parents' evening, a supervision at work, a tribunal, a driving test - wherever one Deaf person needs full access to what is said, and to be understood exactly as they meant it. You tell us the field the appointment sits in - education and learning, workplace and business, health and social care, legal and justice, community and public life, arts, events and sport - and the setting within it. We match the interpreter to that. A child protection conference, a driving test and a board meeting are not the same job, and we don't treat them as one. Every booking is delivered by a qualified and experienced interpreter who is briefed beforehand from whatever you send us, named to you before the day, and there early enough to meet the Deaf person and agree how the two of them will work. Every RSLI is bound by the NRCPD code of conduct, confidentiality included, and carries their own indemnity insurance. This service is delivered by a Registered Sign Language Interpreter - fully vetted to the level of experience the work requires. A diagnosis, a tribunal, a disciplinary, a meeting about a child's support, a police interview, anything signed. Wherever the outcome changes someone's health, money, liberty or livelihood, the interpreting has to be right first time. What the Deaf person receives is the appointment on the same terms as everyone else in the room - able to ask, question, disagree and be understood as they meant it, rather than told afterwards what was decided. What you receive is a decision taken on accurate information. Where the work needs two interpreters - a panel or a platform, an audience, sustained dense content, or a long day - Co-worked RSLI Support is the right service. Anything over three hours is charged as a full day. A full day is six hours of interpreting, spread across up to eight hours on site. Longer days can be booked, and cost more: beyond six hours the rate is £85 an hour, per interpreter. Past six hours accuracy starts to slip and it is the Deaf person who carries that, so on a long day we will talk to you about a second interpreter - Co-worked RSLI Support - which is usually the better answer. A minimum booking applies, so a 45-minute appointment costs the same as a two-hour one. All prices include VAT. Every request is reviewed before confirmation. Once confirmed we send a secure payment link and allocate your interpreter as soon as it clears. Book at least 30 days ahead, and provide your preparation material with the booking.

Cancellation Policy

This policy covers this service only - ONE interpreter, in person, one Deaf person, weekdays 09:00 to 17:00. Not for group, event, training or online work. 1. MAKING A BOOKING 1.1 Book at least 30 days ahead; for less notice, contact us. 1.2 Every request is read by a person before we confirm. 1.3 The form requires a link or a file to prepare from. 1.4 Tell us the setting and subject matter. Personal, legal and medical work must be identified at booking. 1.5 Up to three Deaf people. More, or anyone presenting, is a different service. 2. YOUR INTERPRETER 2.1 One interpreter covers your booking. A full day is six hours of interpreting; beyond six hours, £85 an hour. 2.2 We assess every booking before we confirm it. If it needs a second interpreter - because of its content, its setting or how it runs - we tell you first and re-quote as Co-worked RSLI Support. 2.3 We never confirm a co-worked assignment at the single-interpreter price. You know how many interpreters you are getting, and the cost, before we confirm. 3. BREAKS 3.1 15 minutes' rest per hour when working continuously; breaks are the only safeguard on accuracy, and discussion stops. 4. PRIVATE RESIDENCES 4.1 We do not send an interpreter to work alone with an individual in a private residence. 4.2 You confirm another adult will be present throughout, or the interpreter will not enter and it is charged as a cancellation. 5. CANCELLATION, LATENESS AND NO-SHOWS 5.1 Notice, and the charge: 15+ days - none; 8-14 days - 50%; 7 days or less - 100%; no-show - 100% plus travel. 5.2 Consumers keep their statutory cancellation rights in full. 5.3 If we cancel, we tell you as soon as we can and do not charge. 5.4 An interpreter need not wait more than 15 minutes past the start. A late start does not extend the finish. 6. RECORDING 6.1 Tell us at booking if any part will be recorded. Saying yes is not permission: it needs the interpreter's agreement, is in writing, and costs £550 a full day or £275 for less. 7. TRAVEL AND EXPENSES 7.1 The fee covers the interpreting and the journey - interpreters travel to you and arrive early at no charge. 7.2 Where nobody is within reasonable reach, travel is quoted at 45p a mile, agreed before we confirm. 7.3 Parking, congestion, clean-air charges and overnight stays are at cost, agreed beforehand. 7.4 Full terms: insignlanguage.co.uk/legal-documents/travel Our Terms and Conditions of Service govern; where this differs, they apply. bookings@insignlanguage.co.uk
