Service Description

A trainee BSL interpreter in your evening meeting, at 15% below the Registered rate. We name your interpreter before we confirm, and there is nothing to pay until it has been delivered. One Trainee Sign Language Interpreter, joining online for one Deaf person, weekday evenings between 17:00 and 22:00. A TSLI is a trainee on the NRCPD register: qualified to interpret, working towards full registration, and bound by the same code of conduct as every registered interpreter. ACCESS WHEN THE DAY IS DONE Evening classes and courses, club and society meetings, community and social groups, choir and drama rehearsals, hobby groups, branch meetings, catch-ups with friends and family. The evening is where community life happens, and it should not be the part that goes uninterpreted because the budget ran out at five o'clock. A RECOGNISED ROUTE, NOT A COMPROMISE Planned online work is where the profession expects trainees to build. ASLI's best-practice guidance for video interpreting identifies pre-booked online settings as appropriate for regulated trainee interpreters, with the work matched to their skill level. Matching it is our job, not yours. Tell us what the evening is on the booking form and we take it from there. If it turns out to need a Registered interpreter, we will say so and re-quote - you can take that price or cancel at no cost. WORKING TO A STANDARD, NOT JUST A CONNECTION Every session is delivered remotely by an interpreter working to our own standards and to that same ASLI guidance: preparation before the day, what the interpreter must be able to see and hear, pacing and turn-taking, rest breaks, and when a second interpreter is required. Remote is not a lighter version of the work. The guidance exists precisely because a video link takes something away, and the working practices are what put it back. CONFIRMED BY A PERSON, NOT A SCREEN Our interpreters are on shift during weekday hours. Evenings are sourced individually, so this is a request rather than an instant booking - and that is deliberate. We find your interpreter, they accept the work, and then we confirm to you. You will never hold a confirmation for an evening nobody has agreed to cover. Book at least 14 days ahead; evening cover is scarce and a fortnight is what makes it findable. If your date is sooner, ask anyway. You are not charged until the service has been delivered. You can pay in advance if you prefer. Cancel or reschedule free of charge up to seven days before the start. WHY IT MATTERS The hours a trainee builds with you are part of how the next generation of interpreters qualifies. There are not enough interpreters in this country, and this is one of the ways that changes. A BETTER PRICE, AND A WIDER CHOICE Evening cover is the hardest to find locally, and online the search is national rather than local. At 15% below the Registered rate, a standing weekly evening group becomes affordable to interpret every week rather than occasionally. If the Deaf person is in work, Access to Work may fund their interpreting. Ask us before you book and we will tell you whether it is likely to qualify. THE SAME WORK, WITHOUT THE TRAVEL Interpreting through a screen takes more adaptation, not less, so the fee matches the equivalent in-person evening service at this tier. What you save is the travel - and nobody is driving home at ten at night. WE JOIN YOU Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, or whatever you already use. Send the platform and joining link with your booking - or ask us to set up a Teams link for you. WHAT IS INCLUDED The interpreter for the full booked period, their preparation, and their rest breaks. We name them to you before the day, and we tell you they are a trainee. They are on the NRCPD register, bound by its code of conduct including confidentiality, and carry their own indemnity insurance. PRICE Evening sessions run from two hours up to a full five-hour evening - what fits between 17:00 and 22:00. Prices include VAT and sit 15% below the Registered equivalent: two hours £459, three hours £522.75, four hours £631.25, a full evening £739.75. This service is not available for recorded or broadcast work - that needs a Registered interpreter.
