InSignLanguage Celebrates 8 Years of Innovation and Inclusion

Eight years ago, Liz Hood founded InSignLanguage Ltd with one clear purpose: to support the Deaf community with British Sign Language interpreting services.

Liz motivation with InSignLanguage was deeply personal—driven by a belief in accessibility that truly changes lives. Working alongside Deaf staff and BSL interpreters from the very beginning gave her the insight to understand the challenges the community faces and the determination to create meaningful solutions.

In 2018, the launch of the InSignLanguage App was a turning point—bringing ease and simplicity to accessing qualified interpreters instantly through our Video Relay Service. From those early days, we have continued to grow, innovate, and expand our services to meet the needs of Deaf people across the UK and beyond. During the pandemic, one of the most difficult time in human's history, we are proud that with determination, we continued providing support to our deaf clients so that they had access to communication, information and services

Now, as we celebrate our 8th anniversary, we look back on this journey with gratitude and pride. What started as a small, passionate team is today a thriving organisation that has supported thousands of interpreting appointments, partnered with leading organisations, and even represented high-calibre individuals at meaningful global events.

Our story is not just about growth—it’s about people. We are incredibly proud to work with wonderful BSL interpreters and staff members, some who have been with us since the very beginning, and many new faces who have recently joined our family. Alongside our dedicated staff, they make InSignLanguage what it is today.

We are also proud to have supported Deaf people not only with interpretation, but also with access to meaningful jobs, Deaf-on-Deaf support, and opportunities that create independence and empowerment. From the early days of working closely with over 150 Uber drivers, supporting them into self-employment, to now collaborating with some of the UK’s largest organisations, our mission has always remained the same—to open doors and create access where it matters most.

Eight years is more than a milestone—it’s a symbol of resilience, unity, and hope for the future. The number “8” itself, an infinite loop, reflects our ongoing journey: every achievement inspires the next, and every challenge faced creates space for renewal.

As we celebrate this moment, we want to say thank you—to our staff whose dedication fuels our work, to our interpreters who are the heart of what we do, to our clients whose trust carries us forward, and most importantly, to the Deaf community who inspire us every single day.

Eight years is just the beginning. Together, we’ll continue to grow, innovate, and create accessibility that changes lives.
