At InSignLanguage, we believe every Deaf professional deserves a workplace without communication barriers - a place where you can thrive, progress, and feel fully supported.

That’s why we’ve created a brand‑new video explaining exactly how our Access to Work Consultation and Interpreter Support Contract process works.

Whether you're applying for Access to Work for the first time, renewing your grant, or changing roles, this video walks you through everything step by step. Our goal is simple: to make the entire process clear, accessible, and fully compliant with ISO standards - including ISO 9001, ISO 27001, ISO 17100, and ISO 18841:2018.

What This Video Covers

Our team - including Deaf staff members, communication specialists, and our Head of Interpreters - guide you through each part of the Access to Work journey.

1. What an Access to Work Consultation Involves

Your consultation is relaxed, supportive, and tailored to your needs. During the session, we:

  • Confirm your preferred communication method (BSL, text, captions, spoken English, or mixed access).

  • Explore your job role, working patterns, duties, remote/hybrid setups, and team structure.

  • Discuss communication needs across your workplace - meetings, presentations, one‑to‑ones, group settings, video calls, and written communication.

  • Review your employer’s involvement and any previous experiences with interpreting services.

You’ll always have full BSL access, and plenty of time to ask questions.

2. What Information We Collect - and Why

The details gathered during your consultation help us build a support plan that is:

  • Accurate

  • Sustainable

  • Fully compliant with Access to Work

  • Designed around your real‑life work environment

We also explain:

  • How the Access to Work grant works

  • What it covers

  • How monthly claims are submitted

  • Your responsibilities under the scheme

  • Any steps your employer needs to take

The aim is for you to leave feeling confident and clear about every part of the process.

3. How We Draft and Agree Your Interpreter Support Contract

Your contract outlines everything you can expect throughout your Access to Work grant period. The video explains key areas including:

  • Exclusive use of InSignLanguage for interpreting and support services

  • Monthly claims deadlines

  • Cancellation policies

  • Early termination rules

  • Procedures for varying your agreement

  • When Access to Work approval is required

We designed this process to be completely transparent so you always know exactly what your commitments and entitlements are.

4. What to Prepare Before the Meeting

The video highlights simple preparations to help you get the most out of your consultation, such as:

  • Having your job role, duties, and schedule to hand

  • Thinking about upcoming events or tasks that need support

  • Checking if your employer needs to join part of the call

  • Gathering any previous ATW documents (if applicable)

Don’t worry - you won’t need to provide anything complicated. We guide you through every step.

5. How We Support You After the Consultation

Access to Work shouldn’t feel overwhelming. That’s why we continue supporting you long after the initial meeting.

Our ongoing support includes:

  • Monthly check‑ins

  • Claim guidance

  • Adjusting your support as your role evolves

  • Reviewing your interpreting hours or VRS usage

  • Ensuring everything stays compliant and fully funded

You’re never left on your own - we stay with you from day one through to the end of your grant period.
